SUNDAY DISCIPLES CLASS

The Disciples class studies the four Revised Common Lectionary texts for the current Sunday with a focus on:

  • context of the passages
  • implications of the original Hebrew and Greek languages
  • history of how these passages have been interpreted by the church over the centuries
  • some questions designed to lead us into insights and appreciation for these scriptures.

This class, which is currently using the Feasting on the Word curriculum and other lectionary-based resources is led by class members and meets in Eastminster Hall. Class contact is Jack Jackson. *Note that this class is not currently meeting during the pandemic.

SUNDAY FAITH & CULTURE CLASS

The Faith and Culture Class seeks God at the intersection of our faith and the issues of everyday living.

Its discussion format allows an honest and meaningful grappling with theology and modern society.

Through studies of challenging and spirit-uplifting books and other media, we expand our knowledge and understanding of God and ask the question: How does our life impact our faith and vice versa? We support and encourage one another in works of service. Our view of God expands with every conversation. Call the church office for contact information, 865-983-0182.

SUNDAY SEEKERS OF SEVEN CLASS

The Seekers cover a wide range of topics from the study of Scripture to books on theology, faith, and Christian responses to current issues.

The class is taught by members and is primarily discussion based.

The class is currently studying The Great Spiritual Migration by Brain McLaren. The class meets in the Parlor and would love to have new folks join them any time. Zoom meetings at 10am on Sunday.

Class contact is Roy Fox jamesrfox@yahoo.com

SUNDAY PATHFINDERS CLASS

The Pathfinders is a group of mostly 30-50-somethings who enjoy a conversation/discussion format, often focusing on the relationship between Christian teachings, scripture and current issues.

SUNDAY THE REST OF US CLASS

The Rest of Us class is a diverse group of adults-single, married, young children at home, grandchildren, lifelong Presbyterians, new Presbyterians, and those still seeking. Beginning April 11 they will be led by Harry Herrmann in a study of Proverbs.

Through discussion and study, the class seeks to develop a faith that is active in our world. The class is meeting on Zoom at 11 am on Sunday. Contact is Harry Herrmann harry22222@gmail.com

See more information at the tab below.

SUNDAY PROVERBS STUDY (38 week study beginning April 11)

Proverbs is unique in that it contains practical human wisdom collected and passed down through dozens of generations, combined with and put in context by God’s wisdom.

Proverbs is a guide to insight, understanding, and spiritual discipline to help you make your life better. It is offered to the simple that they may gain knowledge; to the young that they may find direction; to the learned that they might peer behind the words and attain wisdom. It is presented in riddles both simple and profound, wise words that hide deeper meanings. Skeptics deny God, and the ignorant refuse the discipline of wisdom, but you need not be among them!

Harry Herrmann will be teaching a 33-week course on the book of Proverbs beginning at 11am on Sunday, April 11. “The Rest of Us” Sunday school class will be participating, but they invite anyone else who is interested to join them. The class was developed by Hallerin Hilton Hill and adapted for Sunday school use by Harry.

Email info@newprovidencepres.org for more information and what you’ll need to participate.
